Knorr Brake expansion moves forward

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WMAR) - The Knorr Brake expansion is moving forward, with a little help from the County Commissioners.

The entire Board of Commissioners recently presented Knorr Brake with a $240,000 check to assist with basic infrastructure costs associated with the relocation and expansion in the Westminster Technology Park.

The money came from the Economic Development Infrastructure Fund which is budgeted each year to help fund project specific costs.

Last year Knorr Brake announced its plans to expand its business presence in Carroll County by purchasing a 23-acre tract of land and plans to invest over $15 million in building the new facility. LEED energy efficient and green technologies will be utilized in the construction of the building.

Once the expansion is completed, Knorr expects to add an additional 60 employees to the 230 that are already employed.

The Westminster expansion project is expected to not only generate additional jobs but also additional county revenues resulting from new real estate, income and personal property taxes.
