Four charged in scrap metal theft

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (WMAR) -

Carroll County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested and charged 4 four men for their role in scrap metal thefts.

Late Thursday afternoon, Travis Waddell, 19, Branden Battle, 19, Adam Toth, 22 all of Mount Airy and Dwayne Fraizer, 32 of Boyds, were each charged with trespassing and theft. In addition, Waddell was also charged with possession of marijuana.

At about 1:45 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to the 5800 block of Bethel Road to investigate a theft complaint. The property owner told investigators that she heard her dogs barking outside and went to check on them.

The owner saw the four men loading scrap metal from the property into a white Ford Ranger and confronted them. The thieves unloaded some of the metal before fleeing.

The property owner provided the deputies with the truck's tag number that led deputies to the four suspects.

Deputies confronted the suspects who disclosed that they had sold the scrap metal to a processing plant, whom the deputies contacted and were able to place a hold on the property.

During the interview of Travis Waddell, he voluntarily surrendered about 28 grams of marijuana to the deputies.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to call police at 410-386-2900.
