ELDERSBURG, Md. - Update: The victim in this case has been identified as Bergari Zardiashuili, 22, of Brooklyn, New York.
Maryland State Police say a man was stabbed to death early Wednesday morning at a Carroll County grocery store.
The accused Zamani Lawson, 26, of Jamaica, New York has been charged with second degree murder.
The identity of the victim has not yet been release because police have not been able to find family members they believe are out of state. He is only identified as a 22-year-old male form Brooklyn, New York.
Shortly before midnight, a 911 call was received about a stabbing that had just occurred at the Martin's Supermarket in the 1300 block of Londontown Blvd.
Lawson was found standing near the store entrance with what appeared to be blood on his shirt when officers arrived. He was immediately taken into custody.
Carroll County Sheriff's Deputies were directed by employees to a storage area in the rear of the store where they found the victim lying on the floor. He was bleeding from several wounds to his upper torso.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead early this morning.
The preliminary information suggests the victim and suspect both worked for a cleaning company contracted to work at the store. Both had recently been sharing a room in the basement of their supervisor's home, only about a mile from the store.
Witnesses told investigators the two became involved in a loud argument in the store before it escalated into a physical altercation. During the altercation, the victim was allegedly stabbed by Lawson.
The cause of the argument has not yet been determined.
During a search, police located a kitchen knife outside the store.
The store is open 24-hours a day, but shoppers were not in the storage area where the assault occurred.
