Code Red heat alert prompts Carroll County to open cooling centers

Westminster, Md. - Carroll County officials are making sure citizens living in the county stay cool during the latest heat wave to hit the region.

Due to a Code Red Alert issued by the National Weather Service for Monday, July 11th, and Tuesday, July 12th, the Carroll County Department of Citizen Services says they will operate six cooling centers around the country. These centers are designed for those who are vulnerable to extreme heat or do not have air-conditioning in their homes. They will also have water on hand to keep people hydrated in the heat.

The locations and times they are open are below:
- Citizen Services Office Building, 10 Distillery Drive, Westminster (8 AM - 5 PM)
- Mount Airy Senior and Community Center, 703 Ridge Avenue, Mount Airy (8 AM - 4:30 PM)
- North Carroll Senior and Community Center, 2328 Hanover Pike, Greenmount (8 AM - 4:30 PM)
- South Carroll Senior and Community Center, 5928 Mineral Hill Road, Eldersburg (8 AM - 4:30 PM)
- Taneytown Senior and Community Center, 220 Roberts Mill Road, Taneytown (8 AM - 4:30 PM)
- Westminster Senior and Community Center, 125 Stoner Ave., Westminster (8 AM - 4:30 PM)
- All branches of the Carroll County Public Library System
Monday - Thursday 9:00 AM - 8:45 PM; Friday and Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
