Carroll man wins Super Bowl tickets

ELDERSBURG, Md. (WMAR) - After the Ravens' win on Sunday Night, the team held a lottery for PSL owners -- giving a few of them the right to buy Super Bowl tickets.

One of the names chosen was Robert Meekins, of Carroll County.  He's been a season ticket holder since the Ravens came to Baltimore.

His first indication that he'd won anything, was an e-mail this morning from the team.

"I really didn't think much about it because I was so high after the game last night that I didn't think to check my e-mail," he said.

Meekins thought it was some kind of a scam.

"Initially I thought well you know I can delete this because this is just a phishing scam or some kind of a phony e-mail," he said.

But the e-mail was real -- and so are the two tickets to Super Bowl XLVII he has now purchased.

Robert paid $850.00 each for them -- upper deck, in the end zone.  "When you're going to the super bowl, every seat is a great seat," Meekins said.

And he's actually getting quite a deal -- on line the cheapest seats are selling for more than $2000.00.

That price could go up -- along with the cost of New Orleans hotels and air fare.

Travel agent Cyndi Eichholtz says if you want to go to the Super Bowl, be ready to spend at least $6,000 per person, and don't spend too much time thinking about it.

"I would guess in the next 24 hours it's do or die," she said.  "You either get it or you don't."

Robert Meekins says he didn't think anything could be more exciting than beating the Patriots in the AFC Championship on Sunday night, until he checked his e-mail Monday morning.

"Going to New Orleans, going with the Ravens and coming home with the Lombardi Trophy," he said.

But did Meekins ever think of selling those $850.00 tickets for two or even three times what he paid for them?

"No. No," he said.  "Someone once told me or I saw on a television program that as a part of your bucket list, if you ever have the opportunity to go to an NFL Super Bowl, you absolutely have to do it."

The Ravens would not say exactly how many PSL owners won the right to buy tickets to the Super Bowl; Robert says there were others in line at M & T Bank Stadium when he picked up his.  The winners have until Wednesday to buy and claim their tickets.
