A palm scanner program in Carroll County schools will not be expanded.
Currently, scanners are being used in cafeteria lines at some Carroll County schools as a way of matching students with their school meal accounts.
Superintendent Steve Guthrie made the announcement at a Board of Education meeting Wednesday that the program would be halted, at least for now, due to privacy concerns.
Guthrie said the plan was to place scanners in all 43 county schools. Currently, there are scanners in only 10.
As school officials review the use of the scanners, they say the palm scanners will remain in those 10 schools.
