A 20-inch water main break in Cockeysville caused road closures, detours, water outages and a big mess for those living and working in the area Monday.
York Road remained closed in both directions near McCormick and Phoenix roads as of 11 p.m. Monday following the break that happened overnight Sunday into Monday.

The roadway was expected to be closed through the night. It was a situation that had businesses and those living in the community frustrated and missing running water.
"We've been shut down since about 3 o'clock this afternoon," Patrick Russell, owner of Kooper's North, said.
Kooper's North was one of several businesses in the area that were forced to close while Baltimore City Department of Public Works made repairs.
"We just decided to shut down, but it's a full day of business, you lose $5,000, but you still have to pay everybody but it kills ya," Russell said.
Gail Kuebler, who lives in the nearby Rosslear Ridge Condominiums, said she was also inconvenienced by the lack of running water in her home.
"You can't use your water at all, you can't use your toilets at all, you can't bathe," Kuebler said.
Jennifer Combs with the city's public works department said they are asking for patience as workers assess and prepare to take on the project. DPW crews are expected to finish repairing the water main Tuesday, then road repairs will begin.
