Walking all night, because cancer never sleeps

1,000 Loyola students, staff, and community residents came together this weekend to fight cancer.

It was all part of the American Cancer Society’s first Relay For Life event of the season in Baltimore.

Relay participants camp overnight, taking turns walking a track.  Participants circled the track surrounded by glowing Luminaria bearing the names of loved ones lost to cancer and those still fighting cancer.  A survivor’s dinner was also held.

Students started walking at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and kept going until 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning.  Games and music helped walkers keep going throughout the night as well as another big incentive – the chance to win a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250.  The American Cancer Society started selling raffle tickets this weekend.  The drawing will take place on October 12.  Raffle tickets can be purchased at any American Cancer Society office in Maryland or MileOne locations.
