Today the Baltimore County Public Library’s Perry Hall Branch debuted its new “Sensory Exploration Zone” Wednesday.

The space was designed to provide elementary-age children of all abilities a safe, calming, and judgment-free area where they – along with their caregivers – can feel welcome.

It includes active sitting stools, illuminated bubble tubes, an interactive foot board and more.

“This is going to be an absolutely remarkable space," said librarian Megan Menon. "We've already seen kids engaging and starting to use this area of the library in a way that they hadn’t previously. So we're very excited for what this will mean for kids in our community who may have hesitated to use the library prior to this point.”

Over the past three years the public library has developed an increasing number of sensory programs.

The Perry Hall branch has also established the “Sensory Social” for teens program and “Sensory Story Time” on Saturdays.
