Retired UMD professor killed while riding a bicycle in Bethesda Monday

A retired University of Maryland professor was killed Monday while riding a bicycle in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Ned Gaylin, 81, was riding his bike in a crosswalk on the capital crescent trial in Bethesda, when he was struck by a car, and killed.

He was riding a recumbent bike that sits low to the ground with the seat behind the pedals.

The 78-year-old driver will not face charges. 

Dr. Gaylin was a world renowned pioneer in clinical psychology and founder of the University's family therapy center.
