TOWSON, Md. - Dr. Theodore Houk was critically injured Thursday morning in a crash in Towson according to Baltimore County Police.
It happened just after 8:10 on North Charles Street near Chestnut Avenue.
The 50-year-old GBMC doctor was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma where he is listed in critical condition. Dr. Houk is known around the area as the 'running doctor' or the 'jogging doctor'.
Chaplain J. Joseph Hart with GBMC released the following statement:
Dr. Houk, an Internal Medicine physician in the Department of Medicine, has been on GBMC's medical staff since 1992. Dr. Houk is well-known by motorists in the Towson area for jogging every day from his Lutherville home to his York Road practice.
Following this morning's tragic accident, Dr. Houk was airlifted to Shock Trauma in downtown Baltimore, where he is now being cared for by their experts in trauma medicine. We understand his wife is by his side. I have contacted my colleague Chaplain Susan Roy, Director of Spiritual Support at Shock Trauma, where her and her team are lending support to Dr. Houk's family.
I ask you to keep Dr. Houk, his wife and children in your prayers. We will keep you posted as to his progress as the days ahead unfold.
