UPDATE: Baltimore County Fire officials say that the female victim in Thursday morning's fire has died from her injuries. She was identified as 67-year-old Susan Jeanne Fox Shipley, she lived in the home.

Officials say the other victim still in critical condition is her 71-year-old husband; he is being treated at Shock Trauma. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire broke out in the 3200 block of Ryerson Circle at 7:49 a.m.

"A young man knocked on my door and told me to call 9-1-1 because the house next door was on fire, I come out and just smoke was coming out the top bedroom window so I called 9-1-1," Neighbor Kelly Warren said.

Warren said they were a kind, quiet couple, saying the wife would often give her kids and nieces candy or popsicles.

Another neighbor, Moira Hornberger, said she heard the commotion when a fire engine pulled in front of their home. At first she thought someone was having repairs done in the neighborhood, then quickly realized the urgent nature of the emergency, "there were so many fire engines and people and they just all went running."

"I saw them carry him out, from what I understand she might still be inside, because I heard that she was dead," She said.

Baltimore County Fire officials say the fire started in the kitchen, and the home did not have a working smoke detector.

"(Reporter: did you hear any smoke detectors?) No and their windows are black so they was in there a while," Warren said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but fire officials say it might have something to do with a woman smoking while she was on oxygen inside the home.
