It may not have been the best day to hit the links, but people gathered at Hayfields Country Club in Hunt Valley for the "Salute to a Hero" Memorial Golf Tournament.

This year's event honors Jason Schneider -- he was killed during the search of a home three years ago. He and other officers killed in the line of duty are remembered each year at the event and there's even a flyover to kick it off.

Sgt. T.J. Stetson is a 31-year veteran of the Baltimore County Police Department. When he organized the tournament on behalf of Jason and other fallen police officers, Schneider's father expressed gratitude in how law enforcement officers helped his family with the grieving process.

"It mean so much to me to hear those words more than any 'thank you' anyone has given us or any check that someone could have written me," Stetson said. "That was the important part. We come out here, we do this and that's what we play off is that. That really drives us."

Local sports legends like Orioles great Brooks Robinson and former Baltimore Colts running back Tom Matte made appearances during the tournament.
