TIMONIUM, Md. - Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of three people on the ramp from southbound I-83 to the outer loop I-695 in Baltimore County.
The victims are identified as Vignesh Ashokan, 23, Sharath Sudershanam, 24, and Moka Mallikarjun, 25. The three were friends and roommates who lived in Fairfax, Virginia. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said just before 4 p.m., state police received a call about a vehicle off the roadway on the ramp from southbound I-83 to the outer loop of I-695 near Timonium.
When troopers arrived, they found a passenger car that was broken into several pieces. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling on the ramp from southbound I-83 when, for reasons unknown at this time, the vehicle left the roadway and went in the heavily wooded gore area on the left road side.
The car eventually struck a large tree. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to break into several pieces.
State Police determined the three men had been visiting friends at a home in Cockeysville. At about 1:30 a.m. on May 11, they decided to leave and travel back to the apartment they shared in Fairfax. Investigators believe the crash occurred shortly after they left Cockeysville, early Sunday morning.
A friend from Fairfax had filed a missing persons report with police there. Investigators believe the crash site remained undiscovered because it was so far off the roadway and hidden by trees and brush.
