A man arrested on weapons charges in Dundalk in October is now facing additional charges in Pennsylvania after police say he planned to "take back" his home by killing his girlfriend and police.
In September Pennsylvania State Police started investigating 56-year-old Howard Timothy Cofflin after learning he was allegedly making threats against his girlfriend and police, Baltimore County police said in a release.
A protective order was barring Cofflin from returning to his home in Seven Valleys, Pa. so he was staying in the 7500 block of Westfield Drive in Dundalk.
Pennsylvania State Police notified the Baltimore County Police Department of the investigation in October when they learned Cofflin had allegedly got parts needed to make an AR-15 assault rifle and planned to "take back" his home in Pennsylvania, police said.
Because of previous convictions, Cofflin is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition, police said.
On Oct. 23, Baltimore County police executed a warrant to search Cofflin's vehicle and his home in Dundalk. Officers recovered parts needed to make an AR-15 rifle, two bags of ammunition for the rifle and two bullet proof vests.
Karen Powell, a Dundalk neighbor, said she saw detectives and police officers come to the Westfield Road home.
"I know they were bringing out a lot of boxes out there, a couple of shotguns and a case," Powell said.
Police say Cofflin told investigators he planned to take back his home with the ultimate goal of killing his girlfriend and police officers.
Cofflin was charged with firearms violations and illegal possession of ammunition and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
He is now facing more charges in Pennsylvania.
