Despite hundreds of visitors to the Patapsco State Recreation Area over the weekend, a runaway horse is still missing, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Police said the call first came in at 1:17 p.m. on Friday, and park personnel were alerted at 1:22 p.m. The call initially came in as “rider falling from horse, no injuries.”

Officials said that there were some informal searches conducted over the weekend and that park staff are keeping an eye open for the missing horse, named “Play Doh,” as they go about their regular duties.

However, officials say they haven’t heard any update on the situation.

“It’s odd that, given how many people were in the park this weekend, nobody saw the horse,” Candy Thompson, a natural resources police spokeswoman, said.

A flier put out calling for help in locating Play Doh said that the 10-year-old horse was last seen “running up the hill close to the Marriottsvile Road Parking area.”

A reward is being offered for Play Doh’s safe return. Anyone with information can contact Susan Crawford at sac909@aol.com.

Crawford said she was riding Play Doh when he slid down an embankment and she fell off. She said that this is the first time Play Doh has run off.

"This is very different, he must have been very spooked," she said.

Crawford said that some people searching even used drones to look for Play Doh, but that nobody has seen the horse.

Thompson, though she’s only been with the department a few years, said that this case was a bit unusual.
“We’ve had occasions where people have fallen off their horse,” Thompson said. “But the horse has always managed to kind of stick around.”
