Funeral arrangements set for Baltimore County firefighter that died during training exercise

TOWSON, Md. - Funeral arrangements have been made for the Baltimore County firefighter who died during a training exercise last week.

A memorial visitation firefighter Robert Fogle III will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company near Westminster. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday also at the fire company.

While Fogle will receive full fire service honors, his family has not chosen a full, ceremonial funeral; there will be no interment and no procession.

The Pleasant Valley Fire Community Company is located at 2030 South Pleasant Valley Road.

Fogle, 58, went into cardiac arrest during a training exercise Friday afternoon at the Fire-Rescue Academy in Sparrows Point, and was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Fogle was a 27-year veteran of the Baltimore County Fire Department, and was stationed at Pikesville.
A Westminster resident, he volunteered for more than 30 years at the Pleasant Valley Community Fire Co. and was a past member of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann, and two adult children, Garrett W. Fogle and Casey J. Fogle, both of Westminster.

Baltimore County fire officials said an internal investigation is underway as is the case for all line-of-duty deaths. An internal investigation team is being assembled.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health also investigates most fire service deaths. A preliminary conference with representatives from Maryland Occupational Safety and Health has taken place, and the fire department will cooperate fully as the process continues.
