The Maryland State Fair kicked off Thursday and one person came up big in the Flower Show.
First-time competitor Patti Schindler had nine entries. Four of her entires won blue ribbons for first place and four others won red ribbons in second place.
One of her blue ribbon winners was also the overall grand champion of the Flower Show.
"I was here last summer and was walking around and got inspired by the beautiful flowers that are here," Schindler said. "So I spent a year researching them and just fell in love with them. So I gave it a go this year."
The State Fair is in town through Sept. 4.
