BALTIMORE - Authorities are working to identify the charred remains of a driver whose truck plunged off a bridge near the Howard County line late Monday morning.
Maryland State Police spokesman Marc Black said around 11:30 a.m. a Ford pickup truck driving south on I-95 crashed into a barricade on the Patapsco River Bridge. The truck and the trailer it was pulling plummeted off the bridge and caught fire on impact with the ground.
Medics pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for identification.
Four lanes of southbound traffic were closed for several hours. The slow lane had reopened as of 3:30 pm., according to police.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
