The Baltimore City Department of Public Works announced Friday that it will send a legally-required notice to approximately 3,000 customers in the Dundalk area of Baltimore County about a non-emergency violation.
The DPW said that quarterly sampling from February 2015 to January 2016 resulted in an average value of haloacetic acids, compounds that form when disinfectants react with natural organic matter in water.
Consumers don't need to boil water or take any other corrective actions, the department said.
The maximum allowed value for HAA5 is 60 parts per billion. The tested location indicated 63 parts per billion.
DPW said they perform monthly sampling for HAA5, not just quarterly. If monthly samplings were used to calculate the annual average, DPW said, the result would have been 54 parts per billion.
