Baltimore County has passed a new bill that requires properties to be rat-free before any demolition can occur.
According to the bill, anyone wishing to demolish, raze, move or remove a building will have to submit a certification from a pest control technician confirming they have taken rat eradication measures and that the premises is rat-free.
A rat eradication certification will be required as part of the building permit application process in Baltimore County.
The bill was passed by the vote of five Baltimore County Council members - Todd Crandell, Vicki Almond, David Marks, Cathy Bevins, and Thomas Quirk.
The rat eradication bill will take effect March 20, 2017, and will apply retroactively to any permits issued prior to the effective date.
