BALTIMORE - Mosquito spraying will begin in Baltimore County tonight. It's in response to the recent spike in West Nile Virus.
It's scheduled for tonight in the Milford Mill neighborhood. Workers with the department of agriculture will spray for mosquitoes after someone in that area recently died from West Nile Virus.
The spray is designed to kill mosquitos that carry the virus. The CDC says 2012 is on track to be the worst year ever for West Nile in the U.S.
Most of the cases are in 6 states, Texas is the hardest hit.
The mosquito is the key here, it is the vector, it is part of that chain that takes the disease from the bird and it bites the human and passes it on to the human, without the mosquito you break that chain.
If you live in the Milford Mill area you're advised to stay inside while the spraying happens tonight each street will be sprayed once. They also plan to spray in Anne Arundel county next Tuesday after detecting West Nile in the area.
