State law required that the board work quickly to find an interim superintendent following the sudden resignation of Superintendent Dallas Dance in April. White will step into the role on July 1, 2017 and serve until June 30, 2018.
The board reserves the option of conducting a nationwide search for a full-time superintendent during White’s tenure.
Before the unanimous vote, school board president Edward Gilliss said he was, “pleased we have such a talented person in Verletta White and I have full confidence that she will be a great leader of our system.”
