The Baltimore County Board of Education voted to amend the county's school heat-related closure policy Tuesday.

If the heat index is forecast to reach 90 by 11 a.m., the 37 non air-conditioned schools will close.

If, however, parents feel that the heat will negatively affect their child's health or learning potential, they can chose to keep them home from school with a doctor's note.

Those absences will be excused if the child is a student at one of the schools without air-conditioning.
