Between gurgles in beakers, "oohs" and "ahhs" from magically changing test tubes, girls from the Baltimore Leadership School silently focused on the experiments at hand.
The lab, a modified board room in Emergent's BioSolutions Southeast Baltimore facility, hosted 24 middle school students. They learned about vaccines, experiments and toured a world renowned bioengineering facility.
The Young Science Explorers Program is run by non-profit MD Bio. It gives underprivileged city youth the opportunity to get hands-on experience in science careers.
It's a week long program. Half of each day is a field trip, while the other half is in the classroom. The goal is to inspire the next generation of scientists.
