Water Wheel designed to clean litter, promote healthy Baltimore Harbor

A debris-collecting water wheel was unveiled Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to keep the Baltimore Harbor clean.

The Inner Harbor Water Wheel is poised on the Jones Falls River between Pier 6 and Harbor East. It is designed to harness water and sunlight which will keep it turning and, in turn, pick up litter floating down the river.

Its installation is part of the Healthy Harbor Initiative, a continued effort to make the Inner Harbor fishable and swimmable by 2020.
