Residents of the Franklin Square neighborhood will soon have easier access to fresh produce, thanks to a volunteer effort by Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, Big City Farms and the Grace Lutheran Church.

The three organizations came together to build a “hoop house,” a structure that acts like a greenhouse, to house fresh fruits and vegetables including kale, spinach and lettuce.

The hoop house, which will be 22 feet wide and 72 feet long, will be used by Bon Secours Community Works to create workforce development opportunities for its program participants to tend the garden and sell produce and a produce stand.

Volunteers came together Thursday to build the hoop house at Bon Secours Community Works, 26 N. Fulton Ave. in Baltimore.
