A car is critical to getting to and from work, but not every family has the ability to own one. Vehicles for Change is empowering those families by giving them a set of wheels.

The program awarded cars to two Baltimore families Tuesday.

"It means a lot to know that when I'm ready to get up and go, I'm able to do that now," said Kyeonia Mcivor a mother from Baltimore.

Vehicles for Change partners with Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School's (MERVO) Automotive and Auto Body programs. Students at MERVO help repair donated cars so they can be awarded to families in need.

Mcivor called it a blessing "to see that these young men worked on this car for me."

Vehicles for Change reports that since 1999 it has awarded nearly 6,000 cars to low-income families.
