The Urban Alliance will receive $160,000 dollars to split between Chicago and Baltimore, supporting their financial education program.

The grant will be dispersed in January 2018 from The Citi Foundation. They chose five organizations to award the grant to nationwide.

"The program provides economically-disadvantaged high school seniors with paid, 10-month internships, professional development and life skills training, one-on-one mentoring, and intensive case management both during and after the program to prepare students for a life of economic self-sufficiency."

Senior at Frederick Douglass High School Jamilla Sanders joined the Internship Program in the Fall of 2017, and interns at Verizon.

Sanders said she grew up with a supportive family who taught her about financial responsibility, and feels this program is helping her get real world experience.

She aspires to own her own boutique in the future, creating unique accessories for sale.

Kameron Reese was involved in Urban Alliance from 2014-2017, and now works at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, behind the reception desk. Before that he interned with Bank of America.

He was thrilled as he spoke about his new job, thankful for the opportunities UA provided. He is also studying at Baltimore Community College.

The Urban Alliance was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1996 to fill the gap between school and work and help students get jobs.
