Event staff is preparing for what’s expected to be more than 20,000 people for this year’s Baltimore Marathon.

The race will take runners through different neighborhoods in the city, including the Inner Harbor and through the Maryland Zoo. Baltimore Running Festival’s event coordinator says he’s proud of the race’s steady growth and what it’s done for the local economy.

"The most important thing to be proud of is clearly the economic impact and the great things that it does for the community that way, and then on top of that, the charity. We generate over a million dollars for charity every single year and that's something that everybody can really grasp and be proud of,” Lee Coorigan, said.

Hundreds of police officers and medical personnel are expected to be on hand to deal with the crowds.

The race starts at 8 a.m.
