According to research compiled by FindTheHome.com, Druid Hill Park, Hampden, West Federal Hill and Mount Vernon are among Baltimore City’s most dog-friendly neighborhoods.
The study ranked neighborhoods based on the availability of veterinary services and pet supples, groomers, sitters and park spaces for every 10,000 residents.
Geoffrey Hart, co-chair of the Mount Vernon Belvedere Association’s Dog Park Committee, is one of those residents working to make dog park spaces a centerpiece in the neighborhood.
The association has partnered with the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks to construct the Howard's Park Dog Park, a brand new space—four years in the making—that will give area pups a more permanent place to play.
“With the dogs playing, people will gather,” Hart said. “When people gather, that gives them opportunity to get to know one another at a deeper level. Having a dog park facilitates a friendship because you automatically have something in common.”
Hart believes the Mount Vernon area may have also topped the list because of additional park space surrounding the Washington Monument and local businesses that offer outdoor seating and water bowls for dogs passing by in warmer months.
“We look at our four-legged best friends as part of our community,” he said.
Remington, Wyman Park and Lauraville in Northeast Baltimore were also among the top finishers on FindTheHome.com’s list, with Patterson Park, Washington Village and Lakeland in South Baltimore among the least puppy friendly areas in the city.
