One thousand healthy care packages are being delivered to soup kitchens and women's shelters throughout Baltimore.
The bags contain toiletries, healthy snacks, water bottles, even journals. They were put together by health coaches with Take Shape for Life, part of Medifast, at their Go Global leadership conference last week.
"They seem like really small things to us, but they could be huge things to people who don't have access to these items on a regular basis," said Tonja Paylor with Take Shape for Life.
Some of the bags were dropped off at St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore's "Beans and Bread" soup kitchen. They serve hundreds of homeless people, offering services like healthcare, meals, showers and case managers.
"There are a lot of health concerns with the homeless population, so we need to do our best to try to take care of them even if its providing basic healthcare or items that will help them have a healthier lifestyle," said Teresa Eaton of St. Vincent de Paul.
Take Shape for Life will be handing out the bags over the next few weeks.
