The general election is less than 30 days away, and that means local races will be decided, like who will replace long time Sen. Barbara Mikulski.
The race is between Congressman Chris Van Hollen and Del. Kathy Szeliga, who will have to distance herself from Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, in order to make her own case to voters.
"I've said since Nov. 10 when I entered this race I would support our party's nominee, and I am supporting our party's nominee," Szeliga said.
She is facing an uphill battle in heavily Democratic Maryland as she attempts to upset Van Hollen Wednesday, as Szeliga celebrated her birthday at a fundraiser, she spoke about her support for Trump.
"Chris Van Hollen is supporting his party's nominee, and he has yet to mention one word about the things (Hillary Clinton's) done and said over her career," Szeliga said.
Szeliga continues to support Trump despite comments he made in 2005 exposed last week by the Washington Post.

Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, has said he will not be voting for Trump. With a 71 percent approval rating among the state's registered voters, he's endorsed Szeliga.
"The last statewide election we had, Larry Hogan won. He is the most popular governor across our country, and really proving this state is turning purple one election at a time," Szeliga said.
A Washington Post-University of Maryland poll of likely voters shows Van Hollen with a wide lead at nearly 30 points.
For his part, Van Hollen is trying to tie Szeliga to her support for Trump. Just 25 percent of Maryland voters say they would choose the businessman over Clinton, according to polling.
A statement from Van Hollen reads "Donald Trump's values are not Maryland's values," asking what it would take for "Szeliga to finally walk away from" the candidate.
