The Baltimore Sun Media Group announced today that it will acquire the Baltimore City Paper, according to multiple media reports.
This is the first time since 1995 the company has bought another news outlet. Before that, Sun Media bought Patuxent Publishing Co.'s array of community publications.
The Baltimore sun reports the purchase was made for an undisclosed price and the transaction will close in March.
The City Paper, an alternative weekly, currently has a circulation of 50,000. For 25 years it has been owned by Time-Shamrock Communications of Scranton, Pa.
