It's a musical play, packed with wit and a love story. "Something Rotten" will keep the whole family laughing.
"So we're living in the shadow of Shakespeare and we're trying to come up with the next big thing, so I go to a soothsayer to try and find out what the future of theater will be and he tells me musicals," Rob McClure, who plays lead character Nick Bottom in the play, said.
Bottom and his brother go off what the soothsayer tells them, but the man doesn't get much right, leading to the "rotten" storyline.
While the brothers are writing a musical, Bottom and his wife are writing their own future, deciding whether or not to have a baby.
The actors playing these characters are in the same place.
"Maggie plays my wife, and is my real wife in real life, which is fun and a mouthful," McClure said chuckling.
McClure and Maggie Lakis have been onstage together for 12 years and married for eight. Right now they have a fur baby--a cute gray cat that's 12-years-old.
"We joke that our characters we play are growing with us, because in grease they were a young couple falling in love, and then we did Avenue Q where it's like 20-some things trying to find their way in the world and now we're playing Bea and Nick who are this couple who's been married for awhile," Lakis said.
They love their roles in this production and the fact it's a new concept, not a revival, or based on a movie.
"It has beautiful costumes, it has amazing dancing, it has two production numbers that sometimes stop the show and people stand and applaud in the middle of the show," Lakis said.
