BALTIMORE - Art Modell gave Baltimore so much and now it's the city's turn to say thank you.
Art Modell's casket was on the field at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday for pays to pay their respects. It was a silent tribute to the original owner of the Baltimore Ravens. The Lombardi trophy was at his side.
Modell passed away early Thursday morning at the age of 87. Modell brought our beloved Ravens here from Cleveland in 1996.
He hoisted the Lombardi Trophy as owner in 2001.
Modell's influence was bigger than just football. He and his wife Pat donated millions of dollars to charities in the city, including the Seed School, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Modell impacted the entire NFL, but particularly left a mark with Number 52.
"He was one of the most awesome men i ever met in my life, and for me to know him, for me to meet a man like that with all the impact he had on this world," said Ray Lewis. "It's hard losing someone that powerful, with that much influence."
Modell died of natural causes at Hopkins, with family and Ray Lewis at his side.
