A woman with cancer was forced to give up her senior dogs as she prepares to move in to a hospice center.
Bruno and Caramel, 18 and 17 years old, were brought to BARCS Thursday. Their owner had no living family members to take the two pups so she brought them to the shelter. Bruno has arthritis and dental disease and needs extra special care. The two dogs are bonded and must go to a new home together.
Less than 24 hours after they were BARCS, Bruno and Caramel will be headed to a new home. The pups met their new owners just hours after they were brought to the shelter.
Bruce Miller-Crumrine said he heard the story and it touched his heart. He's been a dog owner since he was 19, so he was more than willing to honor the woman's wishes.
"I hope it's comforting to her that she can feel assured that the dogs will live out their life in a great place," he said. "They're going to have a wonderful life. We have half an acre out back, a swimming pool in case the little one wants to do some swim therapy for his arthritis.
