BARCS Animal Shelter is known for taking in animals in need of a love and a new home. That was true for one of their newest additions, Bear, a 12-year-old dog, who wouldn’t leave her deceased owner.

“Unfortunately her owner passed away, but Bear never left her side,” said Mike Davis, the off-site coordinator for BARCS.

Bear was found inside a Baltimore home lying loyally next to her owner.

“She literally sat there, without taking a potty break, no food, no water, for atleast 3 days,” Davis said.

She's now in need of a new home. BARCS posted her story on social media in the hopes that it would reach someone wanting to take in an older dog, and it worked. The BARCS Facebook post was shared more than 1,000 times. Jennifer Barry saw it on Facebook and immediately felt a connection.

“I have to save Bear,” Jennifer Barry said to herself when she first read Bear’s story,

She went to see the senior dog at Belvedere Square Friday night. After she met her she filled out the application.

“My 11-year-old is the best thing that ever happened to me and I couldn't imagine these older dogs losing their family and being left alone and how confusing it could be for them. They can't speak and they don't understand, so it just makes it so much more important that we find forever homes for them,” Barry said.

She’s bringing her 11-year-old dog to meet Bear Saturday afternoon and if all goes well, they're going home together.
