We all have our favorite Baltimore-bred companies, and on Monday, entrepreneurs from Charm City received national recognition.

AOL co-founder Steve Case brought his "Rise of the Rest" road trip to Baltimore.  It's a traveling tour of investors looking for start-ups to get involved in.

The tour hitting Charm City is all about finding ways to take stock in the city's start-up potential, Case said.

"We're trying to understand what's happening here, celebrate what's happening here and tell that story more broadly," Case said.  "We really believe that Baltimore can't just be the Charm City, but also the comeback city if it really bets on its entrepreneurs, bets on its start-ups, and then tells that story for the rest of the world."

Monday morning's roundtable discussion gave way to a competition, where eight startups competed for a $100,000 investment in their company.
