ANNAPOLIS, Md. - More than 2,000 community leaders are expected to attend a rally tonight in support of rebuilding City of Baltimore schools.
Specifically, the rally is in support of a block grant bill, a $1.1 million plan to renovate or rebuild about half of the city's school buildings. Included in the bill -- the creation of a new construction authority that would oversee planning, financing and construction of school projects.
Supporters say the bill is needed because the current system for financing school renovation "will never catch up to the needs of Baltimore city school buildings, the oldest in the state and seriously outmoded."
The rally is sponsored by the Baltimore Education Coalition and will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lawyers Mall at the State House in Annapolis.
