Public memorial Friday to honor the late Helen Bentley

A public memorial will honor the late Helen Bentley Friday at Fort McHenry.

The longtime congresswoman and former star at WMAR died from heart disease in August at the age of 92.

Bentley served five terms in Congress and was dubbed the first lady of the Port of Baltimore.

The ceremony is expected to start at 2 p.m. 

On Friday, the Baltimore Museum of Industry will open an exhibit of Bentley's fashions, including a dozen hats and dressers from the 1960s.

Alex Cooper Auctioneersin Towson is also selling some of her antiques and art pieces through Saturday.
