Port Discovery is mixing spring break fun with a love a science. The interactive children museum is celebrating STEM in Spring Break week.

On Thursday, NASA introduced a new exhibit called The Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) Altimeter Exhibit. The exhibit teaches kids how the new ICESat-2 Mission will measure the height of glaciers, vegetation, tree canopies and water.

"First hand experiences are key," said Nora Thompson, the director of education and community enrichment at Port Discovery. "Children need to get up close with an animal or have an experiment that they can actually do because then they can relate it to the experiences they have seen. They've seen a cloud in the sky and now they've learned how it effects our weather."

There are more events and activities scheduled throughout the weekend. They are as follows:

  • Fri., April 14: Children can build a robot using LEGOs.
  • Sat., April 15: Thomas and Friends™ Day at Port Discovery.
  • Sun., April 16:  Engineer Gumdrop Structures.
  • Mon., April 17: Build & Launch a Satellite.
