BALTIMORE - Police shot a man in East Baltimore at around 12:30 Thursday morning. They say he pulled a gun on officers from his waistband.
Anthony Guglielmi, director of public affairs at the Baltimore Police Department, says when the man pulled the handgun officers fired their weapons in defense. He says no one was injured in the exchange of gunfire, and the suspect ran about a block up the street.
It was then, Guglielmi says, another officer encountered the suspect and after hearing the previous exchange of gunfire, pulled his weapon and shot the 25-year-old man in the leg.
Officials say they were initially called to the area on a report of a person with a gun on the 1500 block of East Lanvale Street.
"Multiple officers responded and found an individual that matched the description that they got on the call," Guglielmi said. "They approached that individual, and that individual engaged police."
Guglielmi says the suspect became combative when officers arrived, and they shot him in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Police have not yet released the suspects name.
