Police, residents participate in National Night Out on August 1

August 1 is National Night Out, an event that brings police and local communities together across Maryland to improve the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement and to support crime-prevention efforts.

Block parties, parades and festivals with food and live music are scheduled for Tuesday night, with officers expected to attend festivities in areas including Baltimore City, Howard, Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore Counties.

This year marks the 34th annual National Night Out event, with more than 16,000 communities participating.

Here’s a list of some of the events planned Tuesday:

Allegany County

LaVale  5 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Country Club Mall, 1262 Vocke Road, Cumberland, Md.

Anne Arundel County

Crofton  6 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Crofton Library, 1681 Riedel Road, Crofton, Md.
Fort Meade  5 p.m. to 9 p.m. - 4409 Llewellyn Avenue, Fort Meade, Md.
