Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology staff started a friendly competition to collect Playdoh for their patients.
When calls for cans of the fun putty were posted on social media, Gold in Fight Foundation pulled out all the stops to help out in the Playdoh war.
Gold in Fight quickly got the attention of its members and Facebook friends to lend a hand, like Linda Felts. Felts' nephew is a patient at Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
"I reached out to my fellow colleagues and asked if they could help me collect some Playdoh for him," Felts said with hopes her nephew's department of nurse would win the war.
Felts' works at Cummings & Co. Relators and between her co-workers and clients thousands of cans started coming in.
"I was overwhelmed with the response," Felts said. "They collected 6,642 containers of Playdoh for the children at Johns Hopkins Children's Center."
Along with the collections from the Gold in Fight, load after load were brought into the hospital on Monday.
"The nurses were overwhelmed when they saw all the Playdoh coming in this morning," Felts said. "They were so excited and to find out this was the first time they did this and they might not have to do it for another two years is just amazing."
Members of #GoldinFight said more Playdoh is expected to be dropped off as the war continues through Friday. Gold in Fight raises money to help patients and their families as they deal with pediatric cancer.
