BALTIMORE (WMAR) - A Baltimore City employee was killed when he was hit by a speeding vehicle as it flipped over in front of City Hall.

Maryland Shock Trauma identifies the employee as Matthew Hersl. Hersl worked in the city's finance department for 28 years.
Hersl was on Holliday Street outside of City Hall when state police say a car going faster than 100 miles per hour and driving erratically, flipped over and hit him.
"I used to say to him, Matthew, you don't spend money in gasoline but I'd like to know how many pairs of shoes you buy every year walking and keeping us safe," Mary Ann Campanella, a former community leader in Little Italy, said.
