Officer's cleared in death of Anthony Anderson

BALTIMORE -

The state's attorney's office announced Thursday that three Baltimore city police officers investigated in the September death of Anthony Anderson will not be charged.

The 46-year-old died from blunt force injuries to the torso. His death was ruled by the chief medical examiner as a homicide.

The investigation, officials say, revealed officers did not use excessive force.

According to a report issued by the state's attorney's office Thursday, three detectives were patrolling the area of Biddle and Bradford Street when they thought they witnessed a drug deal.  Officers say they followed Anderson, believed he was involved in the deal.

The report states that Anderson refused to acknowledge officers and attempted to swallow a bag containing narcotics. It's at that point that investigators say an officer took Anderson to the ground.

Investigators say Anderson's fatal injuries were sustained during that takedown.
