Detectives are still investigating a crime seen in West Baltimore after a homicide detective was shot Wednesday afternoon.
Police say an 18-year veteran of the department was shot in the head near Fremont Avenue and West Franklin Street around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. He is in grave condition at University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
According to investigators, the detective was working on an assigned investigation when he saw a man engaging in suspicious activity. The officer then approached the man. Moments later he was shot in the head, investigators said.
The officer was taken to Shock Trauma. Mayor Catherine Pugh and Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis visited the detective Wednesday night.
"We are praying for him, we are praying for his family, we are praying for all of our police officers, we are praying for every victim and every person who has been a victim in this city, but more importantly we are praying for our city as well," said Mayor Pugh.
Governor Larry Hogan also shared a few words on the incident.
The suspect is described as an African-American man wearing a black jacket with a white stripe on it.
ATF is offering a $60,000 reward for information leading to the shooter's arrest.
Detectives are still investigating the incident and are at the scene of the crime collecting more information.
