The Baltimore City Council voted to pass the municipal ID cards bill Monday night.

The new bill will allow Baltimore residents the option to get a city ID card that would give them access to recreation centers, libraries and even the ability to open a bank account.

Councilman Brandon Scott, an advocate for the bill, said it would save the city money by issuing just one, universal card rather than several.

Similar programs have been adopted in Washington D.C. and New York.
