MTA bus to lead Grand Prix parade lap

BALTIMORE, Md. (WMAR) - One of the Maryland Transit Administration's buses has been granted a special honor -- the tires of the new hybrid-diesel electric bus will be the first to touch the Grand Prix of Baltimore raceway.

The bus will lead more than 30 American Le Mans Series race cars on a pre-race lap.

The one-of-a-kind "pace bus" is covered from top to bottom in Le Mans graphics. It's one of 215 hybrid diesel electric buses purchased by the O'Malley Administration.

"We're proud of these buses, I'm looking forward to showcasing this pace bus to a large race day crowd in Baltimore's Inner Harbor," said MTA Administrator Ralign T. Wells.

Wells will drive the bus on the two-mile pace lap.
